Scroobius Pip

Today’s top 5 comes from bearded-wonder-lyricist Scroobius Pip.

Pip does spoken-word hip-hop-electro-rock in a way that no-one else does, and he’s put together this list of tunes just for you – so get your headphones in, get your speakers on, turn it up and enjoy.

Over to Scroobius Pip:

1 – Doomtree – Bolt Cutter

When I saw this video at the end of last year I watched it about 10 times in a row. For me, this is really Doomtree at their best. Everyone getting to shine, no one hogging the spotlight. Tune.

2 – B Dolan – Film the Police

This tune is just huge. In everyway. A really important song for the activists. Brilliant (NOT blanket “anti the police”) message superbly pulled off.

3 – Johnny Hartman & John Coltrane – Lush Life

This is probably my all time favourite song. Such perfection from both performers. Again, allowing each other space to shine beautifully.

4 – Rancid – Radio

So many Rancid songs for me to choose from but this was my soundtrack for the train journey to school back in the day so this works.

5 – At The Drive In – One Armed Scissor

No big surprise here! Everyone is excited about the upcoming reunion and, whilst an obvious choice, this was the track that first made me fall in love with them.
