Hundred Reasons

Why hello there. Come in. This is Hundred Reasons. You might remember them from 2002 when their album Ideas Above Our Station blew our collective minds. Well they’re back.

Marking the 10-year anniversary of IAOS, Hundred Reasons have picked up where they left off and are playing some blistering live shows… so we thought it was high-time to ask them for their top 5 tracks.

Colin (vocals) and Larry (guitar) have picked a list each – so slap your headphones in already…

Colin’s picks:

1 – Meshuggah – Bleed

One of the greatest metal songs ever written. Crushing most of the way, hideously complicated and also an exercise in sheer stamina.

2 – Alice In Chains – Down In A Hole

Depressing yes but one the most beautiful songs I’ve ever heard.

3 – Faith No More – Jizzlobber

Absolutely mental and amazing because of it.

4 – Refused – Refused Are Fucking Dead

One of the best songs from one the best albums ever made.

5 – Mew – 156

I love this song as the music’s great but the the arrangement matches it too.

Larry’s picks:

1 – Dr John – ‘Big Shot’

His new album Locked Down is awesome and this is my personal highlight. Maybe a little new to be an all time favourite, but certainly getting played a lot in the house right now.

2 – Smog – ‘Held’

I always put this song in lists like these, but that’s because it’s my favourite song on my favourite album by my favourite songwriter. No-one uses space like big BC and this is a prime example of how to pace a song. Awesome.

3 – Cat Stevens – ‘First Cut Is The Deepest’

Actually one of the best songs ever written in my eyes from an incredibly talented and prolific man. It’s a brilliant recording as well from a time when pop music could still sound raw, urgent and vital. And just check out the animal-style drums!

4 – Minor Threat – ‘Screaming At A Wall’

I don’t trust people that don’t like Minor Threat. That is all I have to say on the matter.

5 – Amy Winehouse – ‘Back To Black’

This is my favourite pop song of the last few years. I love how sad it is. Actually, I heard Elbow perform an acoustic cover of it once on the radio and it was that version that really got me hooked on what a great song it really is. Retrospectively though, I love the original just as much.

Here’s the list – press play for the whole set. Bootiful.

Lovely stuff. Now have a listen to this one if you don’t already know Hundred Reasons. What a banger.
